Today we adopted this little girl. Now at the moment she is not happy at all with her arrival on the farm. Let me paint you a picture of her beginning. Carl and I went to the Douglas county livestock sale barn up in Ava Mo. The sale starts at 11 A.M. The first sale of the day is this little 1 and a little black Angus bull Got her for $205 So lets get her loaded . Carl has a flatbed truck and has brought a 3x3x3 metal box to put her in. We back up to the loading area and the guys come to load. Its the little red heifer baby. What are you putting her in? They ask. This box. We are going to stick her in the box and tie it down to the truck. I lay the blanket nice and neat on the floor of the flat bed they shove the calf under the box and we push it down over her. Her little hoofs are sticking out from under the box and we get her all shoved and tucked back under . Carl and the Men strap the box down at the back of the truck. Out of the parking lot onto 5 hwy. OMG Carl STOP the box is falling off the back of the truck!!!!!! He pulls over as I am jumping from the truck to go rescue my baby her little back legs are dandling off the truck and she is trying to get them back on .I finally get her pushed back up and I am trying to get the box to the front of the truck to get a strap around it so it won't move. SHE WANTS OUT it seemed like forever before I can get her and the box up and strapped down. So off we go again this time with 2 straps across the top and 1 around the sides . Hey she has her head poked out of the box. The bottom was rusty and she was able to push a hole in it. OK WE ARE BACK AT THE BARN. How are we going to get her unloaded???????? It's not like you can take the box off her and her just stand there and let you pick her up. SOOOOO I GRAB HER BACK LEGS she is a strong little booger. Hard to hold where's my cowboy JIM when I'm in a pickle. Well she's in the pen and this is her new MOMMY. MOMMY ISN'T HAPPY EITHER but she is real gentle so even if we have to put her in the head chute a couple of times to let the baby suck she'll take her or I will be bottle feeding. late night trips to the barn how come it isn't spring yet.

Thank goodness she isn't yours. If she needs late night feedings you make sure Carl is the one doing the feedings
